ABSTRACT
The study investigate the causes of examination malpractice among secondary school students, Konshisha local government using selected secondary schools as case study. The study employed the survey design and the Simple random sampling technique to select 150 teachers and students from the selected secondary schools in Konshisha local government area of Benue state. A well-constructed questionnaire, which was adjudged valid and reliable, was used for collection of data from the respondents. The data obtained through the administration of the questionnaires was analyzed using the frequency table and the hypothesis were tested using Chi-square and T-test statistical tool. The results showed that Poor Reading habit, Lack of adequate study materials, Peer Influence, Lack of conducive learning environment and Lack of teacher’s motivation are the possible causes of exam malpractice. The study also disclosed several implications of exam malpractice among which include; Termination of admission, loss of the ability to know and comprehend, Laziness towards academic practices, expel, Suspension. The study suggested that; There should be re-orientation towards moral values. Moral instructions that can adequately provide the understanding of the ills in examination malpractice should constitute part of their curricular. Logistic value should be applied. There should be proper control of the supply, distribution and custodian of examination materials should be made in order to avoid leakage.
